ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating: Trophee Bompard, Preview

The 2010/2011 ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating continues this Friday with the Trophée Eric Bompard in Paris, France. The Trophée Eric Bompard is the sixth and last event in the series and thus provides the last opportunity for skaters to qualify for the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating Final. The skaters compete for a global prize money of US $ 180, 000 per individual event of the ISU Grand Prix of Figure Skating and the top six skaters/couples will advance to the ISU Grand Prix Final. 52 skaters/couples from 13 ISU members have been entered for the Trophée Eric Bompard.
In the Men's event, Cup of China gold medalist Takahiko Kozuka (JPN), Cup of China silver medalist Brandon Mroz (USA) and NHK Trophy Florent Amodio (FRA) all have a good chance to earn their ticket for the Final here in Paris. Reigning World bronze medalist Brian Joubert (FRA), who placed 4th in China, wants to do better and still has a shot to qualify. Other contenders include Kevin Reynolds (CAN) and World Junior silver medalist Nan Song (CHN).
Reigning World silver medalists Aliona Savchenko/Robin Szolkowy (GER) won Skate America earlier this month and want to secure their spot in the Final here in Paris. NHK Trohpy silver medalists Vera Bazarova/Yuri Larionov (RUS) are looking forward to challenge the Germans and want to qualify for their first Final. Other contenders include Maylin Hausch/Daniel Wende (GER) and Mylene Brodeur/John Mattatall (CAN).
World Champion Mao Asada (JPN) headlines the Ladies field and wants to make up for her disappointing 8th place finish at the NHK Trophy. Skate Canada gold medalist Alissa Czisny (USA) is aiming at another podium finish and the ticket to the Final. Cynthia Phaneuf (CAN), Mirai Nagasu (USA) and Kiira Korpi (FIN) are other medal contenders in Paris.
In the Ice Dance event, Nathalie Pechalat/ Fabian Bourzat (FRA) are aiming at another gold medal in the Grand Prix after winning their first Grand Prix title at the Cup of China. A group of young couples want to challenge the French team and are hoping for a podium finish here in Paris: Skate Canada bronze medalists Madison Chock/Greg Zuerlein (USA) also have a chance to make the Grand Prix Final while Ekaterina Riazanova/Ilia Tkachenko (RUS) and Pernelle Carron/Lloyd Jones (FRA) are aiming at their first medal in the Grand Prix series.
